  • Your Rights

    Once you have a job it is important to know your rights, take a bit of time to look at the information and links below.

    The law gives all employees the right to ask for flexible working as long as they have been employed for more than 26 weeks. You can only do this once a year or if your circumstances suddenly change.

    Also employers cannot discriminate against carers or harass them this includes not offering someone a promotion because of their caring responsibilities.

    • Carerpositive is a Government funded scheme that has developed a 'caring for carers' kite mark that recognises those employers who offer the best support to carers by allowing them the flexibility they often need to deliver care at home. You should look at the website of anywhere that you are applying to see if they have this kite mark.

    • Workingfamilies.org helps working parents and carers and their employers find a balance between responsibilities at home and work.
