Topic outline

  • What do I say at interview?

You don't have to say anything at interview about your caring responsibilities but when asked any questions about your skills you may want to mention skills you've gained or improved through your caring role as well as through studying or employment.

When you're asked a question at interview try to include an example, let's see how Molly and Ajay got on.

    • Ajay's Interview

Look at the video and see how Ajay brings in his caring experience to show how he is very good at paying attention to detail and how he has a positive attitude to getting things done.

      Think Ahead

Be prepared for questions like the one below and think ahead.

'I see you care for your disabled son, is there any particular shift pattern that would suit you?'

You might answer - 'Well I'm very well organised but an afternoon shift pattern would be ideal.'

      What questions should you ask?

Employers have a great deal of experience of working with staff that have all sorts of caring responsibilities so they shouldn't be put off by any questions you'll want to ask.

    • Molly's Interview

Look at the video and see how Molly uses her caring experience to show how she deals with difficult situations and how well organised she is.

Well done you've now completed all the exercises. If you would like more information about how to prepare for interviews go to www.myworldofwork.co.uk/section/interviews

but don't forget to look at the Your Rights section before you finish.
