Corporate Parenting in Colleges 2023/24

Description
This updated version course uses the voice of Care Experienced students in Scotland to enhance your understanding of how you can support them in your role. We hope that by listening to their stories you will be able to see how, as a proactive and committed Corporate Parent, you can transform the lives of your Care Experienced students.

Supporting Student Carers at College

Description
This course is a continuing professional development resource for staff in colleges designed to raise awareness of the needs of student carers and how their caring roles may impact on their learning. It offers a range of practical strategies and approaches that staff can implement to improve the experience and outcomes for student carers.

Promoting Positive Behaviour

Description
In this course, you will develop an understanding of the multiple influences on students’ behaviour and be introduced to a range of strategies that promote more positive learning behaviours. Discover approaches to dealing with more difficult or complex situations and will reflect on your own specific concerns. Select the approaches that fit with your teaching style, the context in which you work, and the needs of your students. Build a personalised toolkit of strategies to help you create a safe and productive environment for you and your students.

This course will introduce strategies that colleges can use to ensure that students who are deaf and/or visually impaired have equality of access to further education. In an inclusive college every member of staff has a part to play and something valuable to contribute. Inclusion is not solely the responsibility of the support for learning team.

Safeguarding Learners in College

Description
This course will provide you with a better understanding of the legislative and policy background to safeguarding; how to take a person-centred approach to safeguarding and how to identify and respond to any issues and concerns that arise in the college environment. It is about safeguarding learners in the broadest sense, not just about protecting and detecting abuse and neglect.

Student Mental Health
Wellbeing & Inclusion

Description
In this course, you will gain an understanding of key factors that influence student mental health, and of strategies that help to support good mental health. We will also look at ways of responding to crises and pro-actively combatting stigma. This course will not qualify you to be a mental health practitioner, or counsellor.

Security Awareness Training

Description
These 2 modules are about keeping you and your family safe in today’s ever-changing digital world. What do institutions get out of it? Being cyber aware at home translates to being cyber aware at work. We all benefit.

Moving On

Description
This demonstration short course is aimed at student carers and enables them to identify and use skills they have developed when applying for jobs and attending interviews, as well as introducing them to their rights at work. You can request a copy of this Moodle course.

Description 
Whether you regularly work from home some days a week or you’ve never done it before, this course has been designed to provide you with insights and tips on how to manage yourself and manage your space, time and energy to be as effective as you can be.

Managing Remotely

Description 
This module is about managing remotely in a way that you can harness the value of remote work and reduce the costs of virtual distance. How you can manage effectively when you don’t meet your people and no longer work together in the same way. How you can feel confident that your colleagues are on top of their work and avoid the trap of micromanagement.
